Mrs. Sharon Schwartz
Middle and High School Teacher

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

During an earthquake in Osaka, Japan, I was born into an Air Force family. My parents, two brothers, a sister, and I lived in six different places before I finished school. As a little girl memorizing Isaiah 53:6, I realized I was a lost sheep in need of the Good Shepherd, and called on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. I completed high school and my college degrees before marrying in 1978. With the arrival of our children, I stopped working on my doctorate degree after completing the required course work.

LIFE VERSE

My life verses are John 8:32 and Micah 6:8 – “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have nine years as a college instructor, fifteen years as a home educator, one year as a middle school teacher, seven months as an elementary teacher, and many days as a substitute teacher in grades one through nine!

FAMILY

My husband David, daughters Christine and Amy, and son Jonathan comprise my immediate family. My mother also lives in our home. Jon is a security officer; Amy is a college student who works part time; Christine works in a local church and school.

HOBBIES

My hobbies include needlework of all types, sewing (especially quilting), and reading are activities I enjoy. Baking cookies is great fun, too!

INTERESTING FACTS

My husband and I worked with the Korean community in Roanoke for nine years and helped establish the Korean Baptist Church of Roanoke, VA. For several years we have been ministering to international students from area colleges. We have led children’s church for thirteen years, and have also worked in puppet ministry.

WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING

Interacting with students and seeing them understand a concept is a joy for me. I enjoy challenging students to think! When a student says, “I get it,” I’m delighted.
