Mrs. Verna Wheeler
5th Grade Teacher
Division Coordinator
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
I was born and raised in the wonderful state of Maine. I was saved on December 25, 1966. In 1972, I came to western Virginia to work with missionaries that my home church supported. During those 2 weeks in Virginia I realized that the Lord was calling me into Christian Education. While attending Liberty, I met my husband of 26 years. I was employed by Timberlake Christian School, Lynchburg, VA, for four years, before coming to Temple Christian. I taught at Temple for three years before having children. The Lord then blessed us with two children, just fifteen months apart! I was a stay at home mom for the next 7 years. I returned in 1992, and have been here since that time.
LIFE VERSE
My life verse is I John 4:4 “Greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world.”
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am beginning my twenty-third year in Christian Education. I have taught K-5, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th grades.
FAMILY
My family includes my husband, James L. Wheeler; two children, Daniel Lawrence (20) and Rachel Danielle (19), a cat named Tabby (19), and a Cocker Spaniel named Sunshine (11). Both Rachel and Daniel are attending Liberty University. My immediate family resides in Maine, whereas my husband’s family resides in Pennsylvania.
HOBBIES
I enjoy reading, working on creative memory books, needlework, swimming, and outdoor activities.
WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING
I enjoy watching the children grasp a new concept and seeing the feeling of accomplishment that it gives them. It thrills me to see the children’s faces “light up” when they realize that they can actually use what they have learned! I trust the children learn as much from me, on a daily basis, as I learn from them!
