Mrs. Barbara Surbaugh
6th Grade Teacher

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

I grew up in Greenbrier County in West Virginia. I was fortunate to have wonderful Christian parents who prayed for me daily and taught me by example to love and serve the Lord. Because of their prayers and influence, I received Christ as my Savior when I was only six years old. I attended school in Greenbrier County and graduated from Concord College and West Virginia University. I received an endorsement in Remedial Reading from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.

LIFE VERSE

My life verse is Psalm 121:1 & 2 - “I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for twenty-six years.

FAMILY

I am married to J.D. Surbaugh, Pastor of Temple Bapist Church. We have two daughters, Leslie and Laurie. Leslie and her wonderful husband, Brad have given us three grandchildren, Carter, Cameron, and Anna Caroline. They are the joy of our lives. Laurie is married to a wonderful young man, Phil Dumas; they live in Boston, Massachusetts, where Phil is from and works.

HOBBIES

My hobbies include reading, cross-stitching and walking.

INTERESTING FACTS

I taught 2nd grade for one year, and have taught 5th & 6th grade for twenty-six years.

WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING

I have always loved learning. What I love about teaching is the opportunity to share knowledge with others. I get great satisfaction in knowing that I have helped students understand something that has been previously unfamiliar, whether that knowledge is spiritual or intellectual.
