Mrs. Kari S. May
Middle School/High School Mathematics Teacher
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
George Mathison once said, “Lord, I want to thank you for my thorn. I have thanked you a thousand times over for my roses, but never for my thorn. Teach me to value that thorn.” I have learned in life that it is easy to praise God for His blessings, but it is hard to be grateful for the suffering and turmoil that we experience along our journey. It is those times of trouble, however, that draw us closer to our Lord.
I moved around a lot during my childhood, mainly due to the many divorces of my parents. At the age of 12, I made the decision to permanently live with my father in Amherst, Virginia. This was a turning point in my life because I was able to attend church regularly and actually belong to a community. I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of 14 and discovered a true, intimate relationship with my heavenly Father who did not seem to be so far out of reach after all.
The Lord used my past to prepare me for the future. I grew up as the caretaker and responsible, oldest child in my family. There were times when I had to be a parent to my younger siblings and they taught me about love, compassion, and acceptance of others for their gifts as well as for their flaws. To me, that is discovering Jesus in everyone!
LIFE VERSE
Zephaniah 3:17: “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” I am amazed that the Lord actually sings over us!
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
The 2006-2007 school term will be my fourth year as a professionally, licensed teacher. I taught K5 for two years. That was a complete joy, but I grew restless and the Lord moved me to the middle/high school area of mathematics! I am extremely blessed to continue my career at Temple Christian School teaching Algebra and Geometry to 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.
FAMILY
I am engaged to be married on Sunday, August 6, 2006, to Joseph May. My niece Brianna will also continue to live with us.
HOBBIES
Reading, writing, RAPPING (ha ha!), traveling, sports, horseback riding, playing the violin, etc.
INTERESTING FACTS
I love Chinese food and my favorite colors are purple and yellow. I am an “early to rise, early to bed” kind of person and my favorite season is spring! I have traveled extensively, but my most adventurous experience was a mission trip to Cairo, Egypt. Africa is extremely hot, by the way, in case you were wondering.
WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING
I like the structure and organization that is needed in a classroom, but I also enjoy the surprises, the challenges, and the new beginning that arrives with each new day! I am thankful that God has allowed me to be an instrument in developing young lives intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Teaching is just plain fun!
