March
2008
Dear Parents,
Let me begin by thanking you for your response to the parent questionnaires that were sent home several weeks ago. We want to make Temple Christian School the best it can possibly be and we value your input and suggestions. Some suggestions (such as a football field!! ) may be years down the road, but other ideas are being considered even as I write this! Again, we welcome your communication.
I also want to thank you for your ideas regarding fund-raising. The overwhelming majority of you suggested the discount cards, and so we will begin this fund-raiser on Monday, February 25. Each student will receive a packet with an order form and a sample discount card inside. The cards sell for $10 and the school makes $5 for every card sold. Please help us! If every student can sell 8 cards, we will reach our goal of $15,000! We have two weeks to complete the sale. If a class reaches its’ goal by Friday, February 29, that class will win a pizza party. (Students must bring in their forms or a copy to verify their sales!) In addition, if a class reaches its’ goal by Monday, March 10, every member of the class will receive a “NO HOMEWORK FOR A WEEK” pass!!! (They still have to study for tests/quizzes, though!) We’re not sure what yet, but we’ll do something different for the kindergarten classes!! If you have any questions about this (I know it may be confusing!) please don’t hesitate to contact us in the school office!
As we look to the month of March, we want to remind you of several activities that will be happening here at Temple. Many of our 4th-12th graders will be competing in the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools academic and fine arts competition (ODACS), which we will be hosting here at Temple on Thursday, March 6. There will be no classes on that day as we will be utilizing the entire building for competition. Parents, you are more than welcome to come and join us on this very busy day! It can be pretty exciting! In addition, there will be no school on Friday, March 7, as this is an accreditation workday.
Our first Evening of Honor for our seniors will be held on Saturday evening, March 15, at 7:00, in the fellowship hall. This special event is for seniors and their parents.
The third quarter ends on Friday, March 21 (Can you believe it?!) . Report cards will go home on Monday, March 31. This is a critical time in the school year, because we have a pretty good idea how the students are going to finish the year academically. I will be meeting with every teacher about each child by the end of the quarter. Afterwards, we may need to schedule a meeting to talk with you personally about your child’s progress at TCS.
As many of you already know, our high school enrollment is based on an “invitation only” policy. Students who demonstrate a willingness to submit to authority, exercise responsibility in completing school tasks, and display an interest in growing spiritually will receive a letter inviting them to re-enroll. However, students who do not demonstrate these qualities will receive a letter stating that they will not be invited to re-enroll. Students who receive that letter may make an appointment to appeal the decision. At the high school level, attitude and character are crucial to the success of our program here at TCS.
Spring break begins after our last class on Friday, March 21. It’s really early this year! Classes will resume on Monday, March 31. Our Re-enrollment Parent-Teacher Fellowship will be held on Tuesday evening, April 1, at 7:00 in the auditorium. There will be some faculty and staff changes at TCS in the upcoming school year, and I will be presenting some of that information to you at that time. Re-enrollment packets will be distributed. Enrollment will be open to the public beginning Monday, April 7.
We look forward to seeing God continue to do great things in the lives of our students, faculty, and staff. Thank you for your continued outpouring of support and encouragement this school year. We are blessed!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sweat
