January 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful Christmas holiday! It’s going to take awhile to get use to writing “2008” on everything!

We have an action-packed January! As you can tell by the school calendar, our Spirit Week is January 7-11. (It’s earlier this year than in years past.) Each day during Spirit Week has a theme, determined by the 8th grade Leadership Team. Students are encouraged to participate in this fun week by dressing up each day! The themes are:

Monday: Wacky-Tacky Day
Tuesday: Sports Day (ANY TEAM – GO ALL OUT!!!!!!!)
Wednesday: International Day (ANY Country)
Thursday: Disco Day
Friday: Blue and White Day

I want to let you know about a new program that we are trying to implement as it relates to school events. School Cast is a program we found at the teacher’s conference. Here’s how it works (once it’s up and running!): If there is a closing or delay, you will get a phone call at home or on your cell phone. It will also help us if, for instance, a sporting event / practice is cancelled, if we’re running late returning from games, etc. In each of those instances, you will be notified personally. We will still use the hotline (846-0024, Ext. 555), but this will be much more effective, especially in the event of an unexpected situation. Again, getting it up and running may take a little time, but hopefully we will be ready to go by mid-January!

I will try to let you know as soon as possible if school / daycare will be closed or operating on a delay. Sometimes these things are just hard to call, but I’ll do my best to make a decision that will not jeopardize your safety or that of your children.

The second quarter ends Tuesday, January 15. However, middle and high school exams are scheduled for January 16-18, which will be half days for those students. Report cards go home Monday, January 21.

We are preparing for our biggest drama production ever, Pride and Prejudice! There will be two performances in May, and we are in need of tons of costumes, and additional sets. If you can sew, build, and/or paint, and would like to assist us (all materials will be provided), please contact me as quickly as possible. Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking ahead: Reenrollment will open March 17 for returning families. Packets may be picked up in the school office. The PTF meeting, however, won’t be until Tuesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. Spring break is VERY early this year, so it made the schedule a little crazy! More details will be available as we get closer to March!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sweat
