November 2007

Dear Parents,

Can you believe November is just around the corner?! It won’t be long and I’ll be reminding you how many shopping days we have until Christmas!

Hopefully, as you examine your child’s report card (which should be sent home in the Monday folder) there will be no surprises. With our Monday folders, agendas, and progress reports, we’ve tried to keep you updated about your child’s progress. At this point in the school year, we want you to be well informed if your child is struggling academically. Now is the time to get help. Also, now is the time to make adjustments if necessary (i.e., moving from 2nd grade back to 1st grade, etc.) I know that may seem frightening, but trust me when I say it may be in the best interest of your child. If he/she is failing core subjects such as phonics and math, the first semester has been somewhat of a review and will only get more difficult as the year progresses. A student who fails these two subjects for the year will not be promoted here at Temple Christian School. Let’s get help now if we need it!

There will be no school for K5-12th grade on Thursday or Friday, October 8 and 9. Our teachers will be attending a teacher’s convention in Charlottesville. The K4 classes will be on a regular schedule, and morning and afternoon daycare will be available.

We are having our first “Barnes and Noble Book Fair” on Tuesday, November 13. We would LOVE to have a great turnout! Here’s how it works: Every student will be given several vouchers to give to friends and family members. If you use the voucher on that day to make purchases (between the hours of 4:00-9:00) TCS will get a percentage of the proceeds! You may also shop during the day if you want to purchase things you don’t want your children to know about (remember, Christmas is coming!). Many of our classes are going to be showing art work, performing musical/poetry selections, etc., and several of our teachers will be reading children’s stories during the course of the evening!

There’s a neat little resource for students who need help with addition/subtraction/multiplication/division facts called “Holey Cards.” I’ll leave a sample and order forms in the school office if you’d like to consider getting them for your child! The cost is only $ .95 per card, but we would charge $1.00 even, and that would cover shipping. Orders must be placed by Friday, November 16, so we can have them back before Christmas. This is not required – just a suggestion!

The three K5 classes will be presenting their annual Thanksgiving program on November 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the church auditorium.

Enjoy the week off for Thanksgiving break November 19-23!

Speaking of “Thanksgiving,” we have much to be thankful for here at TCS! God has truly blessed us with the best faculty, staff, students, and parents in the world! God is good!
